DAVE CHAPPELLE STAYING PUT IN OHIO: Comedian has no plans to leave quiet farm town for return to Hollywood.
*Comedian Dave Chappelle says he prefers the down home folksy feel of his home in Yellow Springs, Ohio and
has no plans to trade it in for the crazy politics of Hollywood, which he has blamed, in part, for his sudden exit from Comedy
Central last year.
I used to be cable's hottest star and now I'm just a Yellow Springs guy," said Chappelle, who threw in jokes
as he introduced musicians at a blues and jazz festival there Sunday.
Turns out you don't need $50 million to live around these parts, just a nice smile and a kind way about you.
You guys are the best neighbors ever. ... That's why I came back and that's why I'm staying," he said.
Chappelle’s words were spoken during a festival sponsored by the African American Cross Cultural Works,
an organization that Chappelle's late father, Bill Chappelle, helped found.
Two years ago, the comedian walked away from a $50 million contract extension for his "Chappelle's Show"
on Comedy Central. He took off to South Africa for a "spiritual retreat" on the eve of the show's third season, leaving the
series in limbo. He has since returned to performing standup and released the concert documentary "Dave Chappelle's Block
Party."

BEYONCE BANTER: Jay-Z gives her $1 million Rolls; Paramount fears
Beyonce overkill?; Diana Ross shrine; no more 'Panther'; what's really goin' on with Daddy? ( *For her 25th birthday, Beyonce reportedly received a $1 million gift from her boyfriend Jay-Z. According to the New
York Post, the Def Jam president drover her to the Time Warner garage early Tuesday morning and surprised her with a 1959
Rolls-Royce convertible. A source said Beyonce was rendered "speechless."
*The former Destiny Child's member is far from speechless when it comes to promoting
her new album, "B'Day," which finally arrived in stores on Tuesday. She made a whirlwind spin in Japan on the day of the release
and has been a nonstop media presence in the weeks leading up to the big occasion.
The new buzz is that producers behind her upcoming film "Dreamgirls"
are worried that the incessant "B'Day" publicity will cause audiences to be sick of her by the time the film hits theaters
in December.
"Beyonce's oversaturation in the marketplace has thrown a major
monkey wrench in the 'Dreamgirls' rollout campaign," a source told the New York Daily News. "It will take away from the
anticipation of the 'Dreamgirls' soundtrack. She has left Paramount with not a lot of options for rolling out this film."
However, Paramount released a statement Tuesday refuting
the reported overkill factor. "The buzz created by the album's release has only raised awareness of the film," a studio spokesman
said, noting that Beyoncé's "Dreamgirls" original tune, "Listen," is also on her new CD. "Paramount and DreamWorks are nothing
but thrilled with Beyoncé," the PR rep said.
Beyonce's spokesman Alan Nierob added: "I guarantee you that
the publicity campaign for the film is in place, and nothing relating to the publicity for her solo album has affected
that campaign." Beyonce was originally scheduled to drop her album after the release of "Dreamgirls," but the date was pushed
forward to tie in the release with her Sept. 4th birthday.
*In "Dreamgirls," Beyonce plays Deena Jones, the Diana Ross-like lead singer of a group loosely patterned after the Supremes.
The budding actress said she used the famous Motown diva as inspiration during filming of the big screen adaptation. "I had
my whole trailer filled with pictures of her," she said, according to Contact Music. "It was like a shrine. It's something
I thought a lot about. I couldn't help think about the connection. She was the inspiration as far as the look and her mannerisms.
Now I'm loving her and playing her. And hopefully one day the same thing will happen for me. It kind of gives you chills to
think about it."
*Beyonce has said that "Dreamgirls" is her best film role so far on a resume that includes
"The Fighting Temptations" and most recently "Pink Panther" opposite Steve Martin. But Martin will have to shoot the upcoming
sequel without his famous co-star. She told Sky News: "I loved making the movie but with the new album I am way too busy to
fit the second movie in." Possible replacements for Bey include former 'Spice Girl' Emma Bunton (Baby Spice).
*And finally, folks are looking for hidden clues in Beyonce's decision to record "B'Day"
in complete secrecy, most notably, from her own father/manager Mathew. The move rekindled earlier rumors that the singer had
given her father the boot as her manager. She tells UK's Belfast Telegraph that Daddy is still on the payroll despite rumors
to the contrary. "My dad was never fired. But it took him a while to realize I was getting older," she said. "It was when
I turned 19, and started saying 'no' to things. It took him a second to adjust but if we hadn't gone through that phase, then
something would be wrong. …Because I'm so passionate and he's so passionate ... people think that he tells me and I
do it but I'm a grown woman and he respects that. He has his own opinions and when we disagree we disagree and we go at it.
But we always agree eventually. It just took time to figure out how to get the balance between father and daughter, manager
and artist."
BEYONCE’S MEDIA BLITZ IN OVERDRIVE: AOL streams singer’s Japan gig; ‘106
& Park’ and ‘Ellen’ dedicate today’s shows to album release.
*Now that the massive build-up is over, Beyonce and her people at Sony Records
have now shifted into fourth gear and slammed down the pedal to promote today’s release of her second solo album, “B’Day.”
This afternoon, BET jumps into the promotion wheel with an entire “106
& Park” dedicated to the album release, as well as the singer’s 25th birthday. The network won’t
reveal who’s invited to the party, but viewers can expect a transformed set for the occasion and “surprise appearances
by special guests.” Hosted by “106 & Park’s” Terrence and Rocsi, the special airs at 6 p.m.
ET/PT.
As previously reported, Beyonce taped an episode of “The Ellen
Degeneres Show” last week that will air today in honor of the album release. It’s the singer’s first-ever
appearance on the show, which took place in New York’s Central Park and also included surprises for the Houston native’s
25th birthday. Ellen joined Beyonce’s backup dancers as the former Destiny’s Child member sang “Déjà Vu”
and “Irreplaceable” from the new album.
During the Q&A session, Ellen got Beyonce to talk about the recent
rumors of a November wedding to boyfriend Jay Z and her plans for retirement. (Click here to see a clip from the show, courtesy
of TMZ.com) Here’s a partial transcript of the interview:
Ellen: Should I get a bridesmaid dress ready for your wedding with Jay-Z? Are you marrying Jay-Z?
Beyonce: I’m not engaged. It’s a big fat rumor.
Ellen: Do you think it a possibility that you will be engaged?
Beyonce: One day I hope to be married and eventually with children. I grew up with both of my parents
and my sister and a big family so it’s important to me so I would love to have a family.
Ellen: When will you and Jay-Z get married then?
Beyonce: I don’t know
Ellen: You all seem like a great couple
Beyonce- Thank you
Ellen: I don’t know if this is right but you’re 25 today and you want to retire when your 30
years old?
Beyonce: I don’t want to retire when I’m 30 but, I want to be able to relax and take it a lot
slower. I work really hard now I want to be a lot pickier and just kind of chill out and calm down when I’m
30.
Ellen: I think we will disappointed in that we don’t want you to slow down,
Beyonce: I still will make albums and movies but just at a slower pace.
Ellen: That’s a great goal..We should all have that on our life list to retire at 30 ….but you
can you have been working for a long long time.
Beyonce: We started at nine years old together in Destiny’s Child.

SIMMONS EXPLAINS ENDORSEMENT OF REPUBLICAN: Mogul writes editorial outline of reasons for backing
MD’s Michael Steele for Senate. Ending Poverty and Ignorance in America and Throughout the World:
Significance of the Steele for U.S. Senate Campaign in Maryland.
*Some of my liberal friends and associates are quite upset with me for personally endorsing
Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele for the United States Senate. Steele is conservative and a Republican. I am an Independent
who has, in the past, supported numerous Democratic candidates with the recent exception of my endorsement of the re-election
of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a moderate Republican.
At a time when the ranks of the poor
and impoverished across America and throughout the world are on a steady increase, I am going to support and endorse those
political leaders who are bold enough to commit publicly to playing an active leadership role in building an effective legislative
strategy to end poverty and ignorance. Real leadership, however, should not be limited, solely defined or circumscribed only
by political party affiliation.
Hip-hop culture is global and universal.
It not only transcends race, ethnicity, class, gender, geography, religion and national boundaries, hip-hop also transcends
established political parties. Hip-hop is inclusive, not exclusive, of all of the realities that impact the quality of life
of millions of people who daily cry out for a better way of life.
I was pleased to witness Michael Steele
as a statewide official taking action in Maryland during the last four years to reform mandatory minimum sentencing laws,
initiate educational programs for incarcerated youth, increase access to minority community economic development, clean up
the environment and develop alternative energy sources, as well as support equal, high-quality education for all in the public
school system. My attention was focused on these accomplishments and the fact that Steele kept the promises and commitments
that he had made to the voters.
Steele’s criticism of President
Bush and the war in Iraq further exemplifies that Steele is an independent thinker and leader who is not chained or bridled
by the neoconservatives of the Republican Party. Of course, I know that no politician is perfect and there are many issues
that Steele and I do not agree on. What’s important to me is that I believe, after reviewing his track record, Michael
Steele will be a leader in the U.S. Senate toward ending poverty and ignorance a clear priority.
Love is neither liberal nor conservative;
it is what God gives to us all. Love requires justice, fairness and openness for new ways of making a difference in the quality
of life for all people everywhere. One of my mentors, Dr. Benjamin Chavis, encouraged me to directly connect my daily private
practice of Yoga to my public actions and endorsements. Dr. Ben was with me when I made the trip to Baltimore to announce
my support of Lt. Gov. Steele. In one of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, it is written, “The practice of concentration
on a single subject is the best way to prevent the obstacles and their accompaniments.” In other words, a singular focus
or concentration on ending poverty is a necessary commitment by anyone who is serious about this issue.
That night Steele announced, “I
declare a new agenda for America; an anti-poverty agenda – an economic empowerment agenda that I will take with me to
the United States Senate – because empowerment creates opportunity that poverty will never let you see. To tell you
the truth, not enough people in either party are willing to even say the word ’poverty’ ….. much less do
anything about it. To begin, unlike a lot of Republicans, I believe we need to raise the minimum wage.”
Great movements for change always require
taking risks and acting outside the close-minded boxes of society. Building an effective anti-poverty movement will need many
elected officials like Steele and many others from different constituencies from across the nation and throughout the world.
Let’s stay focused. Don’t get distracted by party labels. Let us all work together and share responsibly in God’s
love for all. Let’s end poverty and ignorance!
